The third new Aston due in 2009 will be the wildest yet. It offers a 700bhp V12 and a carbon fibre body, plus huge scope for personalisation – and costs $1.2million.

There have been rumors for quite some time of a McLaren/Mercedes-Benz split from building high-end road cars.In fact, after the ambitious but not-very-successful Mercedes SLR McLaren, shared plans for a smaller (and more affordable) super-sports model were abandoned.Instead, Mercedes’ DTM partner—HWA—has been chosen to develop and build the baby SLR. This new SLC will be based on the next-generation SL (code-named R231, scheduled for 2011), a front/mid-engine car with rear-wheel drive, in contrast to earlier speculation of a smaller mid-engine Mercedes-McLaren. A show car is under construction and will be displayed at Geneva next spring.

Aston Martin is building what could be its greatest model yet – a hardcore Vantage. The standard car’s 4.3-litre V8 is set to be replaced by the 6.0 V12 used by the DB9 and DBS, with power upgraded to a huge 550bhp. But the $150,000 pricetag will leave buyers shaken and stirred!
